理数科海外研修（2日目）
今日の集合場所はMontgomery駅。生徒達はホームステイ先から最寄駅まで車で送ってもらい、BART（鉄道）を使って集合しました。研修先への移動中、ホームステイ先の食事などについて話が弾み、とても楽しそうです。
午前中はStudy Centerでデザインシンキングの講義を受け演習を行いました。生徒たちは5つのグループに分かれて、各グループに1～2名のグループリーダー（大学生）がつきます。まず、「サンフランシスコで日本と違うと感じたことは何ですか？」など、いくつかのお題が提示され、それぞれについてグループ内で意見をまとめて発表しました。もちろん全て英語です。
会話をするための心構えやマナー、質問するための準備、話題の広げ方などをはじめとするスキルも学びました。これらのことは午後の活動に活かされます。
昼食は各グループで相談して、グループリーダーと共にStudy Center周辺の飲食店へ出発！中華やイタリアン、ハンバーガーなど、グループ毎に様々な味を楽しんで来たようです。
午後はフェリービルディングへ移動して、現地の人へのインタビュー活動を行いました。生徒たちが事前学習や午前中の研修を通して考えたサンフランシスコの都市としての問題点について、現地の方の率直な意見を聞いていきます。グループリーダーの指導を受けながら、いざ、挑戦！断られることもありましたが、生徒たちはみんな精一杯取り組んでいました。
今日の活動が終わりました。今回はEmbarcadero駅で解散です。ホストファミリーにお迎えの時間を知らせて、電車に乗り込みます。ゆっくり休んで、明日また元気な顔で会いましょう！
生徒たちは毎日英語で日記をつけています。その一部を抜粋して紹介します。
「I was so excited when I stepped on the ground of San Francisco! My left ear hurt a little bit, but it was not a problem. I enjoyed sourdough clam chowder with my friends in Pier 39. I heard that clam chowder here was too sour, but it was not true for me and delicious!
Then, I saw Alcatraz Island, also known as “The Rock.” I was able to see the Golden Gate Bridge from Pier 39, too. I bought some keychains at the shops. I chose a broken-handcuffs keychain. The clerk suggested that I exchange the broken one for a new one, but I refused because I really liked it.
When my classmate took our pictures, I was able to wear a pair of sunglasses that I had fallen in love with at first sight at UNIQLO and that my father had bought for me.
At the Golden Gate Bridge, I was able to see it up close. It was so big and powerful. I saw some interesting monuments and got a rubber stamp of the Golden Gate Bridge.
Finally, I met my host family. I was so nervous, and my hands were trembling. I felt awkward on the way home. But I became accustomed to talking with my host family. I found that it takes a lot of courage, but it is very important to open my mouth and ask questions. I want to talk more with my host family during this program.」
