理数科海外研修（5日目）
今日の集合は、MacArthure駅。ここから違う路線に乗り換えてBerkeleyへ向かいます。
午前はUC Berkeleyのキャンパスツアーです。今日も10人ずつ4つのグループに分かれて、コーディネーターの学生さんと班毎に行動しました。この大学には複数の図書館があり、あるグループは恐竜の等身大の化石が複数展示された図書館と、ハリーポッターの世界観を感じられる伝統的な造りの図書館を見学したそうです。グループ写真を撮った塔は、一番上まで登るとサンフランシスコの街全体を見渡せる高さがあり、塔の全体像が写真のフレームにおさまらなかったとか！また、伝統的な佇まいの研究棟や、昨年、一昨年建てられた超現代的な研究棟が広大な敷地に存在していることなどを、学生さんから聞きました。スタンフォード大学と比べて起伏が激しく、生徒たちは少し汗をかきながらキャンパスツアーに参加していました。
キャンパスツアー後はお楽しみの買い物です。生徒たちは、大学の名前が入った文房具やトレーナー、Tシャツを買い求めていました。
昼食はBerkeleyの街へ繰り出し、沢山ある学生御用達の飲食店でランチを楽しみました。
午後はこの研修のハイライトとも言える、1人ずつのスピーチ発表です。テーマはずばり「アメリカ滞在を通しての気づき」です。アメリカと日本の違いについて、自分の英語スキルについて、デザインシンキングについて、ホームステイについて、自分の未来について、など様々なスピーチがなされました。生徒たちはそれぞれのベストを尽くし、その都度温かい拍手が湧き起こりました。（まさに今日誕生日を迎えた生徒のスピーチでは全員でハッピーバースデーを歌う場面もありました。）終わった後の生徒たちの表情は自信に満ちており、本当に素敵な時間となりました。
明日は班毎にサンフランシスコの街で活動するLearn &Leadです。
生徒の日記
I went to Stanford University. The buildings were very beautiful and big. They looked like world heritage sites. There were old ones and big ones. I preferred the old ones. There were many places where students could relax, too. The students looked like they were having fun, and they could do whatever they wanted. Stanford University was a really nice place!!
After that, we went to Rakuten Company. The people working there seemed free and happy. The facilities were excellent. There were many private rooms and even dartboards.
Also, I was moved by the speech there. I found out how different Japan and America are. I also think America is a better fit for me than Japan. I came to want to study at an American university. So I searched for how I could get there on the bus. I want to study hard to help me in the future.
In the evening, we went to see the beehives because my host mother makes honey. It was my first time, and it was very interesting. We made a house out of the blocks after dinner. I enjoyed making it and talking with my host family. My host sister will have a big test tomorrow, so I hope she'll do her best.
